An Idea Whose Time Has Come
It is often the most obvious that is overlooked. The idea that education can play a big part in reducing the number of homeless horses in our world today is an obvious solution, but has been long forgotten or ignored. It’s simple - teach owners about horsekeeping before they adopt or buy, and there will be less homeless horses.
Another Chance 4 Horses Equine Rescue and Placement knew this idea would help keep their adopted horses in their new homes, so they wanted to educate owners. That is why they arranged for an adoption day ‘paddock talk’ with us, to educate their adopters about natural care and horsemanship.
The paddock talk idea, however, turned into “A Natural Way”, a mini-expo, when Rich Miller generously donated his Mountain Springs Resort for the weekend, enabling us to present several of NHM’s favorite experts to share their knowledge. Hundreds of horse fans attended the two-day, 17-speaker weekend, complete with horses to adopt, vendors, books, videos, music, tack, supplies, carriage rides, and more.
Interestingly, while we were busy carrying out our plans, a similar event was announced - “Holistic Horse”, in Longmont, Colorado, on May 4th – organized by Colorado Horse Rescue. I was ecstatic to see others with the same idea, planning the same natural theme. I hope to see it become commonplace.
For coverage of our event, “A Natural Way”, please see the article in the “Press Release” section of this issue.
Many huge thanks to all those who attended and presented, at both our event and the Colorado event, and to all the wonderful volunteers! We couldn’t have done it without you! And most of all, THANKS from the horses. To be a part of next year’s event, please contact our offices at email@example.com, 800-660-8923, or contact:
